When applying for a Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa or Tier 1 Exceptional Promise Visa, it is vital to understand the two-stage process.

Stage 1 – Endorsement

Anyone applying for entry into the UK via the exceptional talent/exceptional promise route must achieve endorsement from one of the following government approved institutions: The Royal Society, the British Academy, the Royal Academy of Engineering, Arts Council England and Tech Nation UK.
The applicable body will need to endorse you as a leader or someone with exceptional promise in the fields of:

  • science
  • engineering
  • humanities
  • medicine
  • digital technology
  • the arts
  • fashion
  • architecture
  • film and television

Each endorsement body has differing criteria, which can be found here. Our team will assist you with understanding what your endorsing body is looking for and demonstrating on the application how you meet the criteria. If you require the expertise of a translator, we can arrange this.
Endorsement applications usually take around two months. However, If you are a digital technology specialist applying through Tech Nation, the decision may be fast-tracked if:

  • you’ve been accepted onto a recognised UK accelerator programme
  • you are part of a senior management team with experience in building and expanding a digital technology business
  • you plan to work and live in the regions (rather than Greater London)

Your application for endorsement may also be fast-tracked if you hold a peer-reviewed fellowship or are a senior academic or senior researcher at a UK university, college, or research institute.

A significant advantage of the Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa is that if you are successful, you can choose to work as an employee, a freelancer, or set up your own business. Furthermore, if an organisation such as an orchestra or a technology firm wishes to employ you, they do not need to hold a Tier 2 Sponsor Licence.
